2019 Ram 1500 Review and Comparison in Albuquerque, NM

The Ram 1500: Capable and Surprisingly Refined

All it takes is one look at the new 2019 Ram 1500 to get a pretty clear sense of its personality. A huge and aggressive grille with lower air intakes makes a strong statement reflecting the dominant personality of this truck. And it goes without saying that the appearance is more than just for style; the new 1500 certainly does not compromise when it comes to performance and capability.

Similarly to most pickup trucks on the market these days, there is a wide range of models, bed configurations, engine options, paint colors, and available additional options. The personality of the truck you drive off the lot is entirely dependent on your unique preferences and the statement you wish to make with this vehicle.

Many different models are available to choose from: Ram 1500 Tradesman, 1500 Big Horn/Lone Star (the Texas-exclusive version), 1500 Rebel, 1500 Laramie, 1500 Laramie Longhorn, and the Ram 1500 Rebel. Bed configurations include Crew Cab with a 5'7" box, a crew cab with a 6'4", or a Quad Cab with a 6'4" box. Paint options include Bright White, Maximum Steel, Rugged Brown, Diamond Black, Black Forest Green, Blue Streak, Billet Silver, Delmonico Red, Patriot Blue, Granite Crystal, Flame Red, and Ivory. Lastly, you can select either two-wheel or four-wheel-drive.

There are also three engine options, the first being the 3.6L V6, with 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, able to tow up to 7,730 pounds. With the eight-speed, shifting is swift which gives this powerful engine an impressive EPA mileage rating. The second option is the 5.7L Hemi V8 engine, with 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, and can tow up to 11,610 pounds. The third engine is the same 5.7L, but comes with eTorque technology (as is the 3.6L V6) to get you the best torque in low RPM situations among other advantages. The 5.7L eTorque can tow up to 12,750 pounds. This would be the clear engine choice for the truck-driver whose priorities are towing capabilities and power under the hood.

In regards to handling of the Ram 1500, it is unexpectedly responsive and evenly weighted, which is due to the electric power steering. Regarding suspension, as you would expect, this truck is comfortable and well-controlled whether you are driving on or off-road alike. For an even smoother ride, you can select an available air suspension for your Ram as well.

The interior of this truck offers some surprises too. Low trims consist of your typical plastics and soft surfaces. However, the higher trim models consist of that luxury leather-stitched trim that is almost impossible to dislike. A 12-inch touchscreen, premium audio, front heated and ventilated seats, and reclining rear seats. These models offer 58% more leather than comparable Ford and Chevrolet options.

The exterior of the Ram 1500 has been slightly redesigned for the best aerodynamics possible. The hood is elevated to improve deflection for the wipers, and the rood directs air to the spoiler, and when paired with the class-exclusive active front air dam to reduce drag, making this model the most aerodynamic in the full-size truck category. The (also class exclusive) Active-Level Four Corner Air Suspension system to lower the vehicle when it is at higher speeds, further reducing drag and increasing efficiency.

As you can see, the 2019 Ram 1500 consists of indeed more than just brawn. It proves itself to have brains as well, resulting from varying impressive yet subtle features of refinement.
